Another truly outstanding and iconic episode, ‘Meeseeks and Destroy’ gives us one of the show’s most brilliant inventions: the Mr. Meeseeks.
The episode balances a hilarious fantasy-world adventure with a truly magnificent and escalating B-plot. The main story is a clever parody of generic fantasy quests, with Rick’s cynical commentary providing a fantastic meta-layer.
But it’s the Meeseeks’ storyline that steals the show. The simple premise of a creature that exists to solve a task is taken to its most absurd and logical extreme, resulting in an existential crisis that is both gut-busting and surprisingly dark.
The voice acting is superb all around, with Justin Roiland’s work as the Meeseeks being an instant classic. This episode is a perfect showcase of the series’s creative genius. 8.5/10.
