Ep 6 is a sharply written exploration of Rick’s casual, god-like cruelty. 8.5/10
When his car breaks down, we’re introduced to a terrifying, nested concept of civilizations enslaved to power his vehicle. The main plot, which sees Rick and Morty venture into a universe-within-a-universe, is brilliant, using sci-fi absurdity to satirize scientific exploitation and the cycle of creating those beneath you to do your work.
Equally compelling is the B-plot, where Summer is left with Rick’s car defense system. The system’s ultra-literal interpretation of “keeping Summer safe” leads to some of the show’s darkest and most hilariously executed violence.
It’s a smart, cynical, and action-packed installment that firmly establishes the moral chasm between Rick and his grandson.
