Ep 7 “Promortyus” is the perfect palate cleanser after the self-referential hyper-meta of the Story Train.
This episode hits the ground running – or, rather, the ceiling squanching – with Rick and Morty already attached to the Glorzo face-huggers, a brilliant Alien franchise parody. Honestly I had more fun in 20 min here, than in the entire recent Alien:Earth series.
The true highlight is the brutal, gleeful escape sequence, where Rick and Morty’s combined intelligence and apathy are on full display. Watching them massacre an entire society out of a mix of self-preservation and simple frustration, only to realize they forgot Summer, is the show’s dark cynicism at its absolute peak.
The animation here (the gore, the zero-gravity battle, the detailed alien city) is spectacular and highly engaging. The decision to open in media res and use flashbacks to fill in the plot is narratively dynamic and keeps the pace breakneck.
Summer’s subplot is what elevates this from a great action parody to a top-tier episode. Her simple, brilliant toothpick solution, followed by her ascent into a revered, industrialized Glorzo Queen, is both hilarious and a sharp commentary on how quickly societies can be co-opted or weaponized by an external force. Her moral superiority over Rick and Morty at the end is entirely earned.
With a ridiculous, yet entertaining, beekeeping B-plot for Jerry and a genuinely shocking final twist, this episode is a tight, satisfying adventure that reminds us how great the core three (Rick, Morty, and Summer) are when faced with galactic-level stakes.
