Ep 19 “Leanne’s Saga” unfolds as something of a curious detour: the return of Luanne’s estranged mother has strong dramatic potential, but the episode never quite settles into a consistently funny rhythm.
The concept of Leanne being released from prison and moving into the Hills’ garage sets up predictable friction, and while there are genuinely funny moments – particularly Bill’s unwitting romance and his escalating discomfort – much of the episode feels like a series of loosely connected beats rather than a tight story.
The humour hits occasionally, but it isn’t sustained, and the interaction between long-standing characters doesn’t build to anything particularly memorable here.
Fans of character backstory will appreciate seeing Leanne’s dynamic with Bill and the Hills, but as a standalone entry it feels more interesting in idea than in execution.
