This ep leans heavily into cultural satire, and much of the humour lands cleanly.
The send-up of suburban soccer culture – matching sweaters, forced camaraderie, and performative enthusiasm – is sharp, and Hank’s dry one-liners do much of the lifting. The episode also plays knowingly with American misconceptions about football (soccer?), simplifying the sport to comic effect, sometimes successfully, sometimes too broadly.
Where it falters is Peggy’s characterisation: her behaviour here feels inconsistent with her usual confidence and self-image, bending more than usual to serve the joke. Still, the father-son thread remains solid, and the episode’s humour is frequent enough to offset its thematic bluntness.
7.5/10: A funny outing, even if not one of the show’s more coherent character pieces.
