This is the episode where Locke & Key shifts from promising to genuinely great.
Two new keys arrive and both earn their place… but it’s the Head Key that steals the show. The concept of a literal doorway into someone’s mind, rendered as a personalised physical world, is inventive television. Bode’s mind as a childhood arcade and Kinsey’s as a neatly labelled shopping mall are inspired choices – and the Fear creature lurking inside Kinsey is the most unsettling thing the show has produced yet, impressively without a drop of conventional horror.
Meanwhile Tyler’s guilt is given devastating new dimension, and Dodge’s child-on-the-tracks moment removes any lingering ambiguity about what she is.
The show is firing on all cylinders.
