Ep 3 “Small World” is the season finding its groove.
The opening flashback finally resolves one of Season 1’s most haunting loose ends – how Erin ended up catatonic – with satisfying economy, and her arrival at Keyhouse as a fully conscious character immediately adds a fascinating new dynamic.
The Small World Key is one of the show’s most inventive creations: the dollhouse-as-live-window concept is wonderfully imaginative, and the giant spider sequence that follows is the season’s best action set piece so far… tense, funny and genuinely chaotic in equal measure.
Meanwhile the demons suffer a pleasing setback, and the episode’s closing move sets up what promises to be one of the season’s most important developments.
Mysteries are unravelling at a satisfying pace. 7.5/10.
