Ep 10 “Hot Rick” is easily one of the best episodes of Season 8 and a strong way to close it out. After a shaky middle stretch, the season finally regained its touch in the final stretch, and this finale delivers.
I loved how it dove deep into memories versus reality, directly building on Memory Rick from Season 5’s “Rickternal Friendship of the Spotless Mort” and the events of Season 7’s “The Jerrick Trap.” The idea of a kinder, idealized version of Rick living inside Jerry’s head and then wreaking havoc inside Beth’s mind creates a perfect blend of emotional vulnerability and wild sci-fi madness. Watching Beth’s memories become sentient and the painful father-daughter confrontation hit surprisingly hard.
Rick’s quiet decision at the end to let Memory Rick and the last piece of Diane have their happy ending was genuinely moving. It’s a smart, layered episode that explores human vulnerability buried under layers of absurdity.
A very solid 8.5/10 – one of the season’s highlights.
