Right at the midpoint, Widow’s Bay stops playing around and shows you what it’s really about.

The mushroom trip is genuinely funny… chaotic, physical, and brilliantly played by Rhys, who spends most of it wordless and bewildered. The show wrings every last drop of comedy out of the setup.

Maybe one drop too many… the blackouts that keep jolting Tom between visions do start to wear thin in the middle stretch. It’s a minor complaint, but a real one.

Then the tone shifts completely. The ferry. Lauren. A pregnancy unravelling the further they sail from the island. Suddenly this isn’t a comedy with horror edges – it’s a story about a man carrying an unbearable secret alone for years. That quiet pivot at the end hits harder than anything the show has done so far.

Ep 5 is where the real mystery clicks into place. And it’s worth every detour to get there.
