I had high hopes after the previous episode finally injected some life into the season, but “Free Bird” turned out to be a pretty average hour that killed all that optimism.
Despite a ton of major events happening on screen – including a massive bird attack, a literal body-swap rescue, and the return of a major ghost – the direction felt incredibly uninspired. None of these theoretically cool moments were executed with enough flair or energy to actually make the episode exciting. For a show that is heading towards its definitive series finale in just a couple of episodes, the lack of momentum and urgency is getting genuinely frustrating.
It’s a flat 6/10 for me that unfortunately stalls out right when it should be sprinting to the finish line.
