So that’s it. Ten episodes, one cursed island, and a finale that gives you everything you wanted and just enough of what you didn’t to make the wait for Season 2 genuinely painful. 8.5/10.
K Callan as Ruth is the surprise of the whole season in a single episode. She walks into this show in the final hour and holds her own against Matthew Rhys scene for scene – warm, sharp, funny, and quietly devastating once the truth lands. The tea scene alone is worth the whole episode.
Rhys, as ever, is the beating heart of everything. His Tom has been stubborn, flawed, grief-ridden and oddly loveable all season, and this finale gives him his most exposed and emotionally raw half hour yet. The confession scene is the best thing the show has done.
My one reservation? The ending dangles the thread for Season 2 beautifully but leaves you wanting just a little more closure for the people you’ve spent ten weeks with. A small gripe for a tremendous season.
Overall Widow’s Bay is funny, scary, original and completely addictive. Matthew Rhys is outstanding. Don’t start it unless you’re ready to lose sleep over Season 2.”
