Sacrifice (2025)

I went into Sacrifice solely for Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy, both of whom I genuinely like. The first 15 minutes? Really bad. I almost switched it off. By the 45-minute mark, something clicked – not because the film improved, but because I realised I was watching a genuine so-bad-it’s-good (SBIG) gem.

The concept – a movie star, a billionaire, and a nobody taken hostage by a prophecy-driven cult – probably read well on paper. But the execution is atrocious. Corny dialogue, cheap sets that look like a middle school stage production, juvenile direction, and outlandish costumes that belong in a school play… it all adds up to some of the best unintentional comedy I’ve seen in years. I laughed my guts out at scenes clearly meant to be profound.

Evans is clearly having fun lampooning his own image, and Anya Taylor-Joy commits to the cult-leader madness – the only two reasons this gets any points at all.

If this is what passes for awards-circuit material now, God help us. And Netflix re-releasing it? They must truly be short of content.

2/10 honestly… raised to 4/10 purely for SBIG value. Gather friends, lower expectations, and enjoy the disaster.
