Ep 17 “The Good Buck” is a perfectly watchable, enjoyable episode, but let’s be real: it’s not a standout.
The Buck Strickland born-again Christian plot hits some genuinely funny notes, especially his poolside Bible study and inevitable relapse, but it treads entirely predictable ground. We’ve seen this “Buck hits rock bottom and Hank has to save him” formula before.
Bobby’s subplot, on the other hand, was the actual highlight. Him sneaking into Hotel Arlen for high-society tea time and befriending those eccentric old ladies was brilliant. My only gripe? It wasn’t developed nearly enough. It felt like a rushed B-story that deserved its own full episode.
6.5/10: Overall, it’s a fine, middle-of-the-road outing that gets the job done without leaving any lasting impact.
