What a moving story, and one that takes a real risk by following such an unusual journey rather than relying on a conventional Hollywood formula.
The first half is particularly gripping, with young Saroo’s ordeal in India handled brilliantly. The second half is less intense but remains engaging as he tries to reconnect with his past. The plot is excellent, and Garth Davis directs it with sensitivity and confidence.
Dev Patel is outstanding, carrying the emotional weight of the adult Saroo’s journey with a deeply convincing performance. The younger Sunny Pawar is equally impressive, while Nicole Kidman and David Wenham bring warmth and credibility to the adoptive parents.
What I liked most was how naturally the film explores family, identity and belonging without becoming overly sentimental. My only real criticism is that the editing could have been tighter, particularly in the second half.
7.5/10: It is an unusual true story, beautifully brought to the screen, and well worth watching.
