A finale should rise; this one sat still. I watched ten episodes of buildup converge on this hour, and instead of a payoff with weight, I got a checklist.
The villain I feared barely registered before the show disposed of him. The final confrontation resolved itself through a screen, a tape, and a piece of software – clever on paper, inert in practice. I predicted most of it twenty minutes early, and nothing that happened after surprised me.
What saves it: the performances. The cast sells the exhaustion, the defiance, and the grief so well that I almost forgave the script's caution. The writers clearly cared about their people more than their plot… and it shows, in both good ways and bad.
But ambition requires a landing, and this one played every note safe. The closing tease? I've seen that trick before, and I don't trust it anymore.
6/10: Next season needs a new story entirely, or I'm done.
