The Greatest: S1.E1 Fool’s Gold

A promising start to what could be an interesting series, although this first episode didn't quite blow me away.

I liked the introduction to Cassius Clay's world, his family dynamics and the early pressures surrounding his rise as a boxing champion. There is plenty of interesting material here, particularly the contrast between his sporting achievements and the racial realities of the time.

My main reservation is the pacing. The episode feels like it is laying the groundwork for a much bigger eight-episode story, but a few scenes are stretched out longer than necessary. As a result, the narrative occasionally loses momentum, even though the underlying story has plenty of potential.

The ending is particularly good and gives the episode a stronger finish. More importantly, it leaves me curious about how Clay's journey will unfold and how much of his remarkable life the series will explore.

6.5/10: A decent opening, with room for considerable improvement.
