Secret State: S1.E2

I thought this second episode moved forward brilliantly. It doesn't waste a minute on the election result; we're dropped straight into Dawkins as Prime Minister with the PetroFex problem front and centre, and the story never lets up.

The screenplay is engrossing throughout… the parallel threads all progress in step and none of them drag, which is no small feat with this much plot to juggle. I was also impressed by how much of the British political machinery they get right: the press conferences, the briefing rooms, and especially the PMQs exchange, which feels properly authentic rather than the usual glossy approximation.

Gabriel Byrne continues to hold it all together with quiet authority. And that ending… I didn't see it coming, and it raises the stakes considerably.

8/10: A strong, confident follow-up that keeps the thriller running at full speed.
