I wanted a great documentary. I got an okay one with a great finale. Three hours on Matthew Perry sounds respectful; it's also about an hour too much.

The first two episodes keep circling the same point – fame didn't fix him – and recycle material from his memoir and every talk-show appearance he ever gave. If you know his story, you'll check your watch. The absence of any Friends co-star is felt too; the interviews with his sister and the old friends are warm, but they carry the whole series on their own.

Then Part Three earns everything. The medical scare, the people around him at the end, the legal fallout – I didn't know most of it, and the shift from grief to investigation gave the story the spine it had been missing. His sister's final recollection is the most affecting moment across all three hours.

So my verdict splits the difference: often padded, sometimes repetitive, but with a conclusion that justifies the journey.

6.5 overall – worth one patient watch, and stick around for the ending.
