Ram Setu is a Mythological Adventure which Drowns in Poor execution despite Noble Intentions.
Director Abhishek Sharma tackles a fascinating premise: an atheist archaeologist must prove the legendary bridge’s existence to preserve India’s heritage. The story genuinely engages with mythology respectfully, creating an adventure that feels distinctly Indian rather than a pale Indiana Jones imitation.
Akshay Kumar delivers a committed performance as Dr. Aryan Kulshrestha, bringing energy without overplaying it. The supporting cast provides adequate support, though their characters feel underwritten. The film’s core message about faith versus science creates interesting philosophical tensions.
However, execution significantly undermines the promising concept. Sharma’s direction lacks precision, with uneven pacing particularly in the sluggish opening act.
Most damagingly, the VFX looks tacky and dull throughout, with poor visuals undermining even good scenes. For a spectacle-dependent film, the cheap effects constantly remind you you’re watching a movie rather than experiencing adventure.
The 144-minute runtime feels padded, and technical polish needed for this genre is sorely missing.
Ram Setu succeeds in blending mythology with modern storytelling but fails in delivering the execution its grand vision deserved.
Rating: 6.5/10 (Strong theme and story concept hampered by weak direction and unconvincing visual effects)
