Shaun of the Dead

Still Remains the Ultimate Zombie Comedy

IMDb rating: 9/10

Revisiting Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead after more than a decade feels like finding a tenner in your old jeans: pure unexpected joy.

This “zom-rom-com” remains comedy perfection, proving that brilliant writing never goes stale, unlike the undead shuffling about Winchester.

Simon Pegg is absolutely brilliant as the perpetually hungover Shaun, mistaking zombie apocalypse for another rough Tuesday. Nick Frost’s loveable layabout Ed provides perfect comic foil, whilst the supporting cast creates a dysfunctional group worth caring about between cricket bat swings.

Wright’s direction is masterful, balancing genuine scares with laugh-out-loud moments without sacrificing either. Every one-liner lands perfectly, every zombie encounter feels earned, and the Winchester becomes an iconic destination for British cinema.

What makes it timeless is its heart -beneath gore and gags lies touching commentary about growing up and relationships. The zombie metaphor works brilliantly without being heavy-handed.

Shaun of the Dead proves great comedy ages like fine wine, getting better with each viewing.

Rating: 8.5/10 (British comedy perfection that’ll outlive the actual zombie apocalypse)
