Bob Biswas

The Assassin with Amnesia

IMDb rating: 7/10

Bob Biswas poster

Bob Biswas is supposedly a spin-off to the cult classic character from Kahaani, but I didn’t know this when I watched it and enjoyed it as a stand-alone.

The movie offers a highly intriguing premise but it unfortunately doesn’t fully capitalize on the potential it builds. Directed by Diya Annapurna Ghosh, the film earns a solid 7.5/10 on the strength of its core idea and a standout performance.

The movie’s greatest asset is Abhishek Bachchan, who completely gets under the skin of the titular hitman. Coming out of a coma with no memory, his portrayal of a bewildered family man slowly rediscovering his dark past is both compelling and nuanced. The initial mystery and the slow-burn narrative hook you in, setting the stage for a promising thriller.

However, the film ultimately feels like a missed opportunity. While the first half builds tension effectively, the pace drags considerably in the second half. The director struggles to stick the landing, leaving the conclusion feeling disjointed and unsatisfying. The compelling character study gives way to a more generic plot, and the final moments don’t live up to the promise of the intricate setup.

Overall, Bob Biswas is a well-acted film with an excellent central performance, but its flawed execution prevents it from being a truly great cinematic experience. It’s an intriguing watch for fans of thrillers and Abhishek Bachchan’s work, but be prepared for a movie that doesn’t quite reach its full potential.
