I can’t quite believe I missed Nobody when it came out. Bob Odenkirk, fresh off redefining sleazy charm in Better Call Saul, leading an action flick written by Derek Kolstad, the mind behind John Wick? That’s a cinematic invite with my name on it.
The premise is simple but delicious: a man who seems painfully ordinary gets pushed just far enough for the mask to slip… and when it does, the carnage is operatic.
Odenkirk isn’t just convincing; he’s compelling, selling both the suburban schlub and the precision-trained menace with equal bite. The action is brutal yet balletic, and Kolstad’s fingerprints are all over the set pieces – economical dialogue, lethal choreography, and a sense of escalation that refuses to quit.
There’s a streak of jet-black humour, too… watch for the bus scene, where choreography meets chaos in the best way. Christopher Lloyd even pops up to prove retirement hasn’t dulled his trigger finger.
At a lean 90 minutes, Nobody wastes no time. It’s violent, stylish, and unpretentious… exactly the sort of popcorn-and-grit blend action fans crave. Bring on Nobody 2.
