As a lifelong Super Mario fan, I watched this movie with a lot of expectation, and I’m glad – a vibrant adventure that had my whole family (both kids and me) cheering. This animated gem brings the Mushroom Kingdom to life with infectious energy.
Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic craft a visual feast, blending the game’s iconic aesthetic with breathtaking animation… think: lush worlds and fluid character designs, that pop off the screen. The attention to detail, from familiar power-ups to vibrant locales like Rainbow Road, delighted my gamer heart.
Matthew Fogel’s script keeps things brisk and family-friendly, weaving themes of bravery and loyalty with humor that lands for all ages. Jack Black’s wildly entertaining Bowser, infused with comedic menace, steals every scene, while Chris Pratt’s earnest Mario and Anya Taylor-Joy’s bold Peach deliver charm. Charlie Day’s Luigi adds warmth, though the story’s simplicity can feel predictable.
Special mention for Brian Tyler’s score, remixing classic Mario themes, sparks nostalgia, and the seamless CGI dazzles. Minor pacing dips aside,
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a joyful, faithful celebration of the games, perfect for fans and families. 8.5/10.
