What a dazzling Spielberg gem that gets a 8.5/10 and my full recommendation!
Leonardo DiCaprio is electric as Frank Abagnale Jr., a teenage conman pulling off wild scams as a fake pilot, doctor, and lawyer in the 60s, always one step ahead of Tom Hanks’ relentless FBI agent, Carl Hanratty. Their cat-and-mouse game is thrilling, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt.
The interval chase scene is pure magic, perfectly blending tension and charm. DiCaprio’s charisma carries every con, while Hanks grounds it with quiet grit. Christopher Walken’s turn as Frank’s dad broke my heart – those scenes hit hard.
Spielberg’s direction, paired with Janusz Kaminski’s vibrant 60s visuals, makes every frame pop, and John Williams’ jazzy score is a total vibe. Jeff Nathanson’s script balances humor and emotion, though a few moments drag slightly.
This true-story caper is clever, moving, and endlessly rewatchable… a must-see that proves Spielberg, DiCaprio, and Hanks at their best!
