Given the Ne Zha 2 release and all the hype my daughter and I decided to pick up Ne Zha, and found it is a powerful animated film that delivers a poignant story about defying fate.
The movie creatively reinterprets a classic Chinese legend, transforming the mischievous god into a sympathetic hero. The character animation is fluid and expressive, and the large-scale battle sequences are visually stunning.
While the emotional core, driven by the unconditional love of Ne Zha’s parents, is a genuine highlight, some pacing issues and a few juvenile humor moments can occasionally detract from the overall experience.
I watched the English dubbed and the voice acting is consistently solid, particularly in capturing the emotional depth of the leads.
With its stellar visuals and strong thematic elements, Ne Zha is a cinematic spectacle and an impressive feat of Chinese animation, making it a good choice for fans of the genre.
