Weekend in Taipei

Fast, Curious, and Taipei

IMDb rating: 7/10

Weekend in Taipei poster

Weekend in Taipei is fast, loud, and easy to follow. An off-book agent drops into the city for a weekend mission and finds his ex tied to the crime boss he’s chasing. The plot is simple, but it clears space for the action.

The real fun is the setting and stunts. Taipei’s neon alleys, crowded markets, and restaurant kitchens all turn into arenas. When dialogue slows things down, another chase or fight scene pulls you back in.

Luke Evans, once a villain in the Fast & Furious series, is now on the other side, bringing the same physical presence but more warmth as the lead. Gwei Lun-mei gives her thinly written role real impact, Sung Kang makes a solid if familiar antagonist, and Wyatt Yang adds energy on the margins.

It won’t surprise you, but as a weekend watch with popcorn and a mobile phone, it does the job. 6.5/10.
