Badla is a tense, well-acted legal thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end.
Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan are electric as the accused and her lawyer, their verbal sparring and emotional depth making the film engaging and suspenseful. The story’s twists are cleverly executed, though the final reveal feels slightly rushed compared to the original Spanish film, The Invisible Guest.
Sujoy Ghosh’s direction is sharp and atmospheric, with moody cinematography and a tight script that builds tension effectively. The film’s first two acts are gripping, but the climax could have been handled better, leaving some questions unanswered.
Taapsee Pannu is outstanding as Naina, bringing both vulnerability and steely determination to her role. Amitabh Bachchan, as always, commands the screen with his presence, making their dynamic the heart of the film.
While Badla doesn’t quite reach the perfection of its source material, it’s still a solid thriller with strong performances and plenty of suspense. If you enjoy courtroom dramas and twisty mysteries, this is worth a watch.
7.5/10: quite good, but the ending could have been tighter.
