The Thursday Murder Club

Ah, The Thursday Murder Club… Netflix’s sunny stab at senior sleuthing, where golden-hour retirement vibes clash with half-baked homicides like a sherry-soaked bingo night gone wrong.

Helen Mirren’s Elizabeth is a razor-sharp delight, slicing through suspects with MI6 poise that makes you forget she’s pushing 80 (or 100, who counts?). Pierce Brosnan’s Ron? A hoot as the grizzled union vet, accent be damned – his barroom brawls and bewildered tech fails had me chuckling. Ben Kingsley broods brilliantly as the shrink-with-a-stethoscope, while Celia Imrie’s Joyce diaries her way into your heart like a cheeky nan on TikTok.

Chris Columbus directs with that Home Alone whimsy, turning Coopers Chase into a suspect-filled sitcom set, but oh, the plot! It’s a red-herring parade that fizzles faster than a flat pint… rushed reveals and missing book magic leave the mystery feeling like background noise for your doomscroll session.

Enjoyable fluff for folding laundry or ignoring emails, but don’t pause your phone for this twin-screen snoozer. Solid cast carries the cozy crime caper, proving age is just a number… until the script forgets to call.

7/10 – charming, but criminally undemanding.
