Beetlejuice

I went back to this Burton classic after finishing the recent second season of Wednesday. Beetlejuice is still a riot 35 years later, oozing charm at 8/10.

Tim Burton’s gothic-comedy gem sparkles with Michael Keaton’s unhinged Beetlejuice, a whirlwind of sleaze and hilarity stealing every scene. Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis ground the chaos as the sweet Maitlands, while Winona Ryder’s brooding Lydia and Catherine O’Hara’s campy Delia add perfect flavor.

The $15 million budget fuels dazzling practical effects and Danny Elfman’s iconic score, wrapping Burton’s quirky vision in vibrant visuals. The script, blending spooky satire with heart, keeps the pace zippy, though minor subplots feel rushed. From the afterlife’s bureaucratic gags to Beetlejuice’s wild antics, the film’s humor and heart endure, making it a Halloween classic.

Rewatching, its practical effects and Keaton’s manic energy feel timeless, even if some references age. A must-see for fans of Burton’s weird wonderland, Beetlejuice proves you can’t keep a good ghost down.
