Dangerous Animals has guts: a serial killer who feeds his victims to sharks, a surfer forced into a deadly game, and enough tension to keep you watching. But it also leans heavily on tropes.
Jai Courtney is the highlight. As Tucker, he’s creepy and unpredictable, and he saves many of the film’s weaker moments. Hassie Harrison brings grit as Zephyr; she fights hard, though some of her emotional beats don’t land as well. The romance subplot feels tacked on. There are good visuals and underwater moments, and the boat setting works for suspense, though the sharks are often just hinted at rather than fully shown. Some escape sequences stretch believability, and the ending is less surprising than it tries to be.
If you like horror with creature-features, a dominant villain, and don’t mind a bit of cheesiness and cliché, this delivers enough thrills to make it a worthwhile watch once. But don’t expect anything groundbreaking. 5.5/10.
