My Week With Marilyn is a surprisingly pleasant and engaging watch that goes beyond the usual Hollywood glamour. Rather than a sprawling biopic, it offers a focused and intimate look at a legendary figure during a uniquely chaotic time.
The film’s greatest strength is its fantastic acting, with Michelle Williams delivering a magnetic and deeply empathetic performance as Marilyn. She perfectly captures both the star’s dazzling public charm and her private, debilitating insecurity, making her a truly human and compelling character. Kenneth Branagh is also a scene-stealer as the frustrated and theatrical Laurence Olivier.
While the film has a few minor pacing challenges that slow its momentum, its charm, authenticity, and superb performances make up for it.
7.5/10: It’s a sweet, thoughtful film that’s more about the person than the icon.
