Mrs. Doubtfire

If Jumanji was the adventure film of my youth (see recent review), then Mrs. Doubtfire was the heartfelt comedy that made me laugh and tear up in equal measure. Rewatching it now with my kids, I was surprised at how timeless it feels… a solid 8/10 family film that lands as strongly today as it did in the ’90s.

Robin Williams is simply unstoppable here. His ability to slip between slapstick, sharp wit, and genuine emotion is why the film still resonates. The comedy -restaurant chaos, phone-call improvisations, and the vacuuming-in-costume montage – remains hilarious. But what elevates the film is its beating heart: a father desperate to stay connected with his children.

Sally Field provides the perfect counterbalance, and Pierce Brosnan plays the rival with unexpected dignity rather than cartoonish villainy. The kids bring authenticity, grounding the story in real stakes.

Yes, some jokes feel a little broad now, but the emotional throughline keeps it fresh. The idea that love sometimes means sacrifice still hits home.

Verdict: A warm, funny, and moving classic… Robin Williams at his very best, both as a clown and as a dad.
