I just rewatched Baazigar after more than 30 years, and to my surprise, it still holds up beautifully. Even knowing all the twists, I found myself drawn into the tension, the drama, and Shah Rukh Khan’s electrifying performance. This was the role that truly announced his arrival: charming one moment, chilling the next, and never letting you get too comfortable.
Kajol and Shilpa Shetty, both so young then, light up the screen in their own ways. Kajol already had that spark we’d see in later blockbusters, while Shilpa made a memorable debut. Watching them now, there’s something nostalgic yet fresh about their performances.
And then there’s the music – Baazigar O Baazigar, Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen, Chhupana Bhi Nahi Aata – absolute classics. These songs were the soundtrack of the ’90s for so many of us, and they remain hummable decades later.
Sure, some of the melodrama and fashion scream 1993, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. For me, Baazigar is still an 8/10: stylish, daring, and unforgettable even after all these years.
