The Bad Guys 2

The Bad Guys 2 is a slick, fast-paced animated sequel that, while visually spectacular, trades some of its predecessor’s unique charm for a more conventional adventure.

It’s the kind of film that is perfectly watchable with a few solid laughs for adults, but truly lights up the screen for its target audience. My daughter’s high enjoyment was a testament to its success as a fun, vibrant, and energetic kids’ movie.

The film’s art style, a fantastic blend of 3D animation with a hand-drawn, comic-book feel, is still a major highlight, remaining one of the most stylish aesthetics in mainstream animation today. The voice cast, led by Sam Rockwell, is as charismatic as ever, and the action sequences are more kinetic and ambitious than before.

However, the sequel’s plot feels less clever and more generic, with a predictable “one last job” narrative and a new antagonist crew that doesn’t quite pop with the same charisma as the originals.

While it’s a perfectly good time at the movies, it doesn’t quite replicate the surprise and wit that made the first film a breakout hit.
