Anjaam

After rewatching Baazigar and Darr, I went into Anjaam (as a first watch) expecting another gripping Shah Rukh Khan anti-hero story… but it just didn’t live up to those standards.

The premise is familiar: obsessive man, woman who dares to say no, and the violence that follows. SRK gives his all (manic energy, wild-eyed intensity) but it feels like he’s repeating tricks we’d already seen done better in 1993.

Madhuri Dixit brings star power and poise, and she’s the one who keeps the film watchable. Her journey deserved a tighter, smarter script, but instead she’s weighed down by melodrama and endless run time. Some songs like Chane Ke Khet Mein are fun in isolation but derail the narrative.

There are moments of spark – SRK’s unpredictability, Madhuri’s dignity – yet the film overall feels dragged out and predictable. It’s darker but not sharper, and that makes it the weakest of the so-called anti-hero trilogy.

For me, Anjaam lands at 5/10: a few strong performances, but weighed down by length, repetition, and a lack of novelty.
