Inside Out 2 had the unenviable task of following Pixar’s most emotionally profound film, and to its credit, it succeeds more often than it stumbles.
Riley is now 13, which means puberty and all its messy emotions. Enter Anxiety (voiced with sharp brilliance by Maya Hawke), alongside Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui – and suddenly the control room feels as crowded as a teenage sleepover.
The film is funny and heartfelt, with enough inventive set pieces to keep both kids and adults engaged. My kids loved the slapstick moments, while I found myself nodding along at how accurately Anxiety hijacks the mind. It’s not as groundbreaking as the first film, and a few beats feel like retreads, but the emotional core is still very strong.
Verdict: An 8/10 sequel that may not surpass the original’s brilliance, but does exactly what it should… grow up with Riley and her audience.
