Inside Out

Pixar Gets Inside Your Head

IMDb rating: 9/10

Rewatching Inside Out with my family reminded me why this Pixar gem is so special, and remains one of its smartest and most heartfelt creations..

The idea of emotions running the control room of a child’s mind sounds quirky on paper, but on screen it’s brilliant. My kids laughed at Anger’s fiery outbursts and Fear’s jittery antics, while I found myself completely moved (again) by Sadness.

Phyllis Smith gives her such quiet depth that you can’t help but feel grateful the film reminds us it’s okay, even necessary, to be sad sometimes.

The visuals are endlessly creative, from the memory orbs to the hilarious abstract thought sequence. And that Bing Bong moment? Still devastating, still perfect. What struck me most this time was how the movie speaks equally to children and adults, just in different ways.

Verdict: For me, still a 9/10. Emotional, clever, and one of Pixar’s all-time best.
