Zero starts off with promise… for about twenty minutes, I thought I might be watching something bold and different. The quirky humor, the small-town swagger, the idea of Shah Rukh Khan playing an insecure, flawed character… it all hinted at a return to form. But then the film completely loses its way.
What follows is a messy blend of melodrama, misplaced sci-fi, and emotional overreach. The writing doesn’t know what story it wants to tell, and the direction wobbles between grand spectacle and dull sentimentality.
SRK tries hard (too hard, maybe) but the script gives him no real footing. Anushka Sharma’s performance is admirable in parts, but her character is absurdly written, while Katrina Kaif surprisingly adds the only spark of authenticity.
The visuals are polished, the songs are nice, but everything else drifts into tedium. By the time the space angle arrives, the film has already lost its heart. Zero had potential… and then promptly wasted it.
4/10 – only for the ambitious plot idea. Otherwise 2/10.
