This sequel proves that just setting the carnage in a bigger city doesn’t automatically make the movie better. While Olympus Has Fallen had a focused, B-movie intensity, London Has Fallen is a loud, lazy rehash that simply trades containment for chaos.
The plot, revolving around a ridiculously improbable coordinated terrorist assault on world leaders at the Prime Minister’s funeral, is paper-thin. It exists purely to justify Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) running around like an immortal, R-rated superhero. The action is constant but quickly becomes repetitive, relying too often on dodgy CGI explosions rather than solid, contained suspense.
My 6.5/10 rating is strictly for the visual spectacle… the real star is the systematic, glorious destruction of the London backdrop. If only the script had half the architectural integrity of the landmarks it blows up, this would have been a worthy follow-up.
Instead, it’s a forgettable, over-the-top exercise in jingoism and gunshots, proving the franchise peaked back at the White House.
