Freakier Friday is the kind of sequel that should’ve been a no-brainer… bring back Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, throw in some body-swapping chaos, and let the chemistry do the rest.
And for the first 20 minutes, it works. Lohan and Curtis slip back into their roles like a comfy hoodie, and their banter is as sharp as ever.
But then the film loses the plot – literally. Instead of focusing on the mother-daughter dynamic that made the original so charming, Freakier Friday throws in multiple body swaps, convoluted rivalries, and a handful of young actors who just can’t keep up.
The young cast isn’t bad, but they lack the charisma and depth of the 2003 crew, and their backstories feel forced and unconvincing. It’s like watching a cover band that only knows the hits – but forgets the soul.
The humor is still there, and the physical comedy lands more often than not. But the emotional beats fall flat, and the overstuffed plot makes it hard to care about who’s who or why they’re fighting.
By the end, you’ll be glad you watched it… but (if you are like me) you’ll also be craving a rewatch of the original.
Final Verdict: A 7/10 – fun, but not freaky enough.
