Home Alone

The Perfect 9/10 Classic (Thanks, Nobody 2)

IMDb rating: 9/10

Watching Home Alone for the fifth time, I was reminded how much I love the perfect, 9/10 genius of Kevin’s Rube Goldberg gags that I firt watched as a teenager. But pivoting straight from those comical traps from the Nobody 2 climax sequence was the perfect context.

Home Alone is not just a holiday film; it’s a perfect comedy of escalating, Rube Goldberg genius. Every one of Kevin McCallister’s traps is a masterpiece of childish engineering, from the hot door handle to the swinging paint can.

The film is hilarious, but it’s the heart – Kevin’s emotional journey and his relationship with his family – that keeps it grounded. The Wet Bandits are brilliant foils, embodying the perfect mix of cartoonish evil and slapstick resilience.

The pacing is FLAWLESS, and the score instantly transports you back to Christmas morning, or a lovely rum pudding. This film is pure comfort food, expertly crafted, and fully deserving of its legacy. It’s the original masterclass in home defense that still holds up completely.

Still a near perfect 9/10.

PS – my vote is still for Die Hard as the best Xmas film, but Home Alone is a close second….
