Him

Him fumbles a promising Black List script despite Jordan Peele’s production backing. The sports-horror hybrid explores athletic obsession but drowns in heavy-handed symbolism and telegraphed twists that keep audiences perpetually ahead.

Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers deliver surprisingly strong performances that deserve better material. Wayans, impressively ripped at 52, transitions convincingly from comedy to menacing charisma, while newcomer Withers brings genuine vulnerability. Julia Fox and Tim Heidecker are wasted on underdeveloped roles.

Justin Tipping creates visually striking sequences reminiscent of The Cell, and Bobby Krlic’s atmospheric score adds tension. But predictable plotting and overwrought metaphors undermine any suspense. The film overindulges in style while failing to develop coherent themes about fame, obsession, and sacrifice.

Competent craftsmanship can’t salvage derivative storytelling. The first half is watchable but then it dives headlong into disappointing territory.
