Kya Kehna

Melodrama Meets Motherhood

IMDb rating: 7/10

Kya Kehna poster

Kya Kehna remains a powerful watch, bravely tackling the taboo of unplanned pregnancy in 2000s India… a genuinely progressive subject for its time.

Preity Zinta is phenomenal as Priya, delivering a nuanced, heartfelt performance that carries the film’s significant emotional weight. The music is an absolute highlight.

However, the film’s execution often leans into dated melodrama. The emotional swings (from light romance to harsh family drama) feel too abrupt, and the villain is cartoonishly two dimensional.

While I admire its core message of female strength and choice, the final act ties up the messy reality a little too neatly. It’s an important film with a big heart, but it occasionally sacrifices realism for high drama.
