Speed 2: Cruise Control

No Speed, No Spark

IMDb rating: 5/10

Speed 2: Cruise Control poster

Speed 2 is a sequel that simply never finds its rhythm. 4.5/10

Coming after the razor-tight brilliance of Speed, my expectations were sky-high – but what made the first film electric is mostly missing here.

Unfortunately, the pacing drags badly through the middle, and the tension evaporates long before the explosive finale. The switch from a speeding bus to a cruise ship drains away the urgency, and we care far less about the people onboard. The big crash sequence is impressive, but it comes too late to save a bloated story.

The absence of Keanu Reeves is sorely felt; Jason Patric tries, but the chemistry and charisma just aren’t the same. Willem Dafoe is the film’s saving grace, leaning fully into his eccentric villain role with twisted charm. Sandra Bullock does her best, though her character feels reduced to comic relief.

Overall, Speed 2 isn’t unwatchable – just a spectacular missed opportunity.
