I came to A House of Dynamite with high expectations, given Kathryn Bigelow’s track record. It’s solid, at times gripping, but far from her best.
The movie builds on familiar ground – soldiers under pressure, blurred morality, and the personal cost of conflict – yet this time the pacing feels uneven, and the emotional punch doesn’t land as cleanly. John David Washington does strong work, and Riley Keough brings intensity, but the story becomes predictable midway through.
There are flashes of the taut direction and realism that made The Hurt Locker unforgettable, especially in the quieter tension-building scenes. Unfortunately, those moments are surrounded by long stretches that lack urgency.
It’s a competent film that never fully catches fire… well-crafted, just not explosive enough.
