I went into Cash Out expecting pure B-movie schlock – a quick heist flick to kill 90 minutes – and damn if it didn’t overdeliver on that front, clocking in at 6.5/10 for staying punchy and twisty even as I doom-scrolled on my phone during lulls.
John Travolta’s grizzled thief Mason is a weary hoot, phoning in charisma with just enough grit to sell the betrayal-fueled siege, while Kristin Davis crackles as his ex-negotiator, their flirty standoffs adding unexpected spark amid the SWAT chaos. Lukas Haas chews scenery as the screw-up brother, injecting frantic energy that keeps the hostage hijinks from flatlining.
Director Ives piles on the drone-shot frenzy (eye-roll worthy, but kinda fun), and the script’s got enough double-crosses to hook you through the runtime.
Yeah, it’s derivative as hell (Dog Day Afternoon lite with crypto nods that go nowhere) but for a two-screen multitask, it’s engaging trash: snappy, silly, and surprisingly rewatchable. Low expectations met and raised.
