Now You See Me 2

We revisited Now You See Me 2 after rewatching the first film, and in advance of #3 coming out soon.

While it was a blast, it just didn’t hit the same highs. The original felt like a perfectly executed magic trick – sleek, clever, and effortless. This sequel? More like a flashy, overstuffed magic show where the tricks are impressive but the pacing stumbles.

The cast still shines. Jesse Eisenberg’s smug charm, Woody Harrelson’s dry wit, and Dave Franco’s energy keep the Horsemen fun to watch, and Lizzy Caplan slides right in, replacing Isla Fisher without missing a beat.

But the real surprise is Daniel Radcliffe as the villain – he’s terrifyingly good, playing Walter Mabry with a cold, calculating edge that makes him the best part of the movie. Mark Ruffalo’s darker turn adds depth, though the revenge plot sometimes feels like too much drama for a franchise that thrives on fun.

Jon M. Chu’s direction is bold and visually stunning, especially in the neon-drenched Macau finale, which is pure spectacle. But the script tries too hard… the magic tricks are more convoluted, the twists pile up, and the revenge angle drags things down.

It’s still a solid 7/10, a fun ride that delivers plenty of entertainment, but it’s missing the tight, effortless magic of the first film.
