Finally: A Spy Thriller That Respects Your Time
IMDb rating: 7/10
Finally, a slow burn that actually burns.
The Asset's pilot trusts its audience enough to let tension simmer rather than explode every ten minutes, something American streaming shows desperately need to relearn. I watched this dubbed and it still hooked me completely – that's when you know the storytelling works.
Alexandra Rapaport is phenomenal as Tove, a retired spy whose carefully constructed suburban life begins cracking. Her performance says more with a glance than most shows manage with entire monologues.
The 50-minute runtime feels perfectly calibrated… things happen without rushing, building genuine intrigue rather than padding for time. It's refreshing to watch something that understands "slow burn" doesn't mean "boring" – it means deliberate, patient, earned suspense.
After too many shows where nothing happens until episode four, this opener delivers exactly what it promises: a gripping 7.5/10 introduction that makes you immediately queue Ep 2.
