Toy Story 2 expands the universe beautifully, proving that Pixar could make sequels with real soul. The rescue mission gives Buzz and friends more screen time, while Woody’s emotional arc – torn between fame and friendship – adds surprising depth.
Joan Cusack’s Jessie is a fantastic addition; her song “When She Loved Me” still hits hard, even decades later. The humor, pacing, and clever references are spot-on, though the film leans slightly more sentimental and less tightly structured than the first.
Even on rewatch, it was still an excellent ride… heartfelt, funny, and visually more polished. I just missed a bit of the freshness and simplicity that made the original magical.
Verdict: A near-perfect 8/10 sequel that proves lightning can strike twice – even in a toy box.
