When I first watched An Inconvenient Truth nearly two decades ago, it felt like a hard-hitting wake-up call. Al Gore’s passionate presentation and stark warnings about climate change were so compelling that they inspired me to shift my career toward social impact.

But today, looking back, I see the film for what it truly was: a masterclass in alarmism and brainwashing.

The documentary’s predictions – catastrophic sea-level rise, societal collapse, and extreme weather events – have simply not come to pass. Instead of fostering informed debate, it created an industry of fear, where dissent is labeled as denial and nuance is drowned out by hysteria. Gore’s presentation, while slick and emotionally charged, was light on balanced science and heavy on doomsday rhetoric.

Worse, An Inconvenient Truth helped spawn a multi-billion-dollar climate-industrial complex, where activism, policy, and corporate interests often blur into a self-sustaining cycle of fearmongering. The film’s legacy isn’t just awareness… it’s polarized discourse and misplaced priorities.

3/10: a documentary that, in hindsight, did more to manipulate than educate.
